Dale, I actually I believe morality, responsibility, honesty and dependability are taught in military schools, but rarely in major universities. My point was to illustrate the similiarities between the Christian college and the military school.

Thanks, SG

It wasn't this generation that has begun the transformation of autocratic leadership. The military has realized, gradually over the last couple of decades, that kind of leadership style is somewhat archaic. I have a post discussing this very thing entitled, "Decision-Making in the New 'Leadership Organization.'" I invite you to read it --> http://commandperformanceleadership.wordpress.com/2012/01/26/decision-making-in-the-new-leadership-organization/

It is becoming less top-down and hierarchical leadership structure. Think about the military, in total, as a leadership organization where you invite participatory involvement in decision-making; where people at every level, from the sides and the bottom, have a voice and a view, and are permitted and encouraged to provide feedback. If you delegate more, if there is more distributed decision-making, then you see an organization that is a ‘leader organization.' That is exactly what is happening in today's military.

Granted, it does help that this generation does need that kind of approach. So, your premise is correct, but not the primary reason for the changes.

I've got to ask you why you say that character, honesty, moral bearings, and dependability are rare these days at military academies? In the last two sentences of your post, you say this. I'd like to know what makes you say those characteristics are rare at schools like West Point, Naval Academy, and the Air Force Academy?

Interesting article. So what I hear you saying is that they are sick of all of the topical, man-centered preaching that has been the preaching of the past generation, and they strictly want God-glorifying expositional Bible teaching that will challenge them to sacrificial Christ-like living immediately. In other words, if it's not an expository sermon, they won't listen. Interesting.
