Covenant marriage is not a new term. It has been around for a very long time. But I am happy to say that I am IN a covenant marriage. Today, April 6th, is Jennifer and I’s 8th anniversary. Nearly our entire adult life (from college years on) have been spent together in a mutually-fulfilling covenant.
I met her a couple days after I graduated college. As I entered seminary and adulthood, she walked alongside me. As I entered Christian ministry and service, she was right there with me. As I walked the various graduation platforms, she has in the seats cheering me on (in 2003, she walked across before me).
We have moved twice together – from Fort Worth to Cincy and from Cincy to Campbellsville. We bought a home together, numerous cars, and a bunch of other stuff.
We have traveled the world together to places like Spain, Malta, Italy, Egypt, France, and Latin America. We have two beautiful sons together. We have prayed together, worshipped together, ministered together, and laughed much together. We are in a covenant marriage. We are cleaved to one another.
There is not a Shane and a Jennifer. There is just Shane and Jennifer Garrison. And nothing will ever change the covenant I have with God and with my wife to love her and devote my life to her.
I love you Rose. You’re my favorite. Happy Anniversary.
