Preparing for a Little Experiment

Next week and for several weeks after wards, our family is going to be living a little experiment.  As Jennifer will be temporarily restrained from all physical activity to recover from back surgery, I will be taking the helm as Household Manager.

I will still teach my classes through the week and preach at Parkway on Sundays, but the rest of the time I will be at home helping the family.

I will get just a small taste of ALL the things Jennifer handles through out the week.  She will not be able to drive, so I will get Isaac to and from preschool.  I will handle all grocery shopping and errand running.  I will be preparing the family meals for at least 3 weeks and keeping the house straightened (I would use the word “cleaned,” but let’s be real).  I will be responsible for all the outside chores like normal, but will add bathing the boys, making sure they brush their teeth, and changing every dirty diaper for Ethan (yes…he is still in diapers).

So we begin our little experiment.  I do foresee I am going to have a MUCH GREATER APPRECIATION for my wife and her job as Household Manager.  I know that I am going to be more understanding and kind after this when little things around the house get left undone.  And I am certain that I will more thankful than ever to have a wife who manages our home so well.

Let the experiment begin.  Well…let it begin next Tuesday.

  1. It’s never easy for one person to take over the managing of a household with two busy little boys. Will be praying for all of you. Wish I was closer so I could help. Remember the verse in James about patience and how to build it.
